I’m guessing Blood and Honey is doing a lot of lifting for Pooh here /s

What’s wild is that Pokemon has ‘only’ been around since 1996. So despite some of these having existed decades longer, Pokemon still managed to more than triple the revenue of the next biggest franchise.

Dont these numbers include branded gambling machines in japan?

The fact that half of these are owned by Disney 😭
And the fact that all of the Disney ones COMBINED barely outperform pokemon (315.8 in total)

It’s incredible how Japan and the U.S. handle almost all of the world’s entertainment.

And yet the games have a budget that’s lower than what AAA games were doing in the ps3 era.

I always knew Hello Kitty is popular but I am still amazed for a brand that do not have popular movie, only small theme parks in Japan, it surprising to me it does better than some of other brands.

I think this proves nothing further than the power of brand loyalty set by overlooked early morning cartoons. Which parents saw as just an avenue to distract their children.

What’s crazy is that guy that bought twitter spent nearly as much as the marvel cinematic universe is worth and he is still the richest guy on the planet

Pokemon really is the prefect media franchise. Video games, trading card game, movies, shows, toys & merchandise, clothing, apps, the only thing pokemon is not really a part of is food and I could be wrong.
Pokemon is an incredibly versatile franchise.

The fact that Disney owns or controls a large number of these should speak to the power and size. Disney should have been an all inclusive number and it would dwarf Pokémon.

Everyone jokes about how Winnie the Pooh is banned in China. It’s not. It’s actually insanely popular in China. Memes about comparing the president to Pooh are banned, but they can’t actually ban Pooh entirely without immense public backlash

Is Anpanman popular anywhere outside of Japan? Are they so high up simply because they’ve been around forever, or is it still that popular. (I know it’s still quite popular, just didn’t think it was THAT popular.)
