Trying to meet Henry VIII’s standards

    1. Catherine of Aragon was queen for over 20 years but only had a surviving daughter. Anne Boleyn became queen after Henry broke from the Catholic Church, but she also failed to give him a son and was executed. Jane Seymour finally gave Henry VIII a male heir, but died shortly after childbirth.

      To be fair, England not even 50 years before was in a civil war due to succession issues. In addition, there was never a ruling queen in England before his daughter Mary. His standards for that were reasonable.

      Although 90% of the other things he did was insane, people have to look at the Wars of the Roses and the consequences of that occurring again with no clear heir.
