How electrical stunning is performed in slaughterhouses. A controlled electric current is applied for a few seconds to cause immediate loss of consciousness before slaughter. The goal is that the animal does not perceive pain during the process.

Why are people downvoting this? Just about every one of you probably never gave a thought about how that pork chop or ham got to you, even though the animal was probably slaughtered in a much more cruel fashion than this.

    2. Yes it’s probably more humane, but something about how industrialized this is just feels so excessive

    3. My take is they don’t even see it coming and they are gone before they even realize it.

I’ve always had the opinion that a person who wants to eat meat has to see the entire process from animal to table. If they still want to eat meat after that then it’s more justified.

I’ve seen the entire progress personally. I got to do it the old school way 15 years or so ago in a Danish slaughterhouse. Put me off meat for a little while and I don’t eat as much meat nowadays as others in my circle do.

Seeing like 50 pigs all lined up in a row split in the middle still connected by their snouts still warm with body heat was a sobering view to say the least.

    5. I worked at a popular pork processing plant in Detroit (TAV) in my late teens… That’s MUCH better than how they did it.

Man, this is hard to watch. I intentionally avoid slaughterhouse videos bc I don’t think I can take it. Sad thing is I’m not strong-willed enough to cut meat.

I eat meat. I love bacon and big, juicy steak. But I do think that, at some point in the future, our decedents will look back on our treatment and consumption of animals with the same horror that we do for some of the things our ancestors did.

This is a more humane way. These are conscious creatures at the end of the day though and we’re slaughtering them on an industrial scale. We really need lab grown meat to take root and become less expensive.

    9. I’m assuming the current is applied by the two arms that go around the neck judging by how the pigs look, so what the third arm do?

    10. How does Halal slaughter work in comparison?

EDIT: Obviously I’m not referring to pigs

I still feel horrible seeing this, they look at you, but its so so much better than a puncher, and please dont look that up….

    12. Every time I see these type of videos Im happy I decided to become vegetarian. Poor creatures

      Livestock hell.
Thinking again, animals in the wild eat each other alive. This could also be us tomorrow if a stronger alien race came to Earth and decided to turn us into food.

When I was a child I saw pie got slaughtered every month. Trust me this is way more humane.
