Meci is english. Garantie is italian. Ciocolata is again from Italian though it is ultimately a nahuatl word
Also, people did not intentionally decide to suddenly use french words. What happened was that you students went to study in Paris and in Florence and while there they were exposed to new concepts for which there was no word in Romanian. When they came back they brought those new ideas with them.

I’ve worked with Romanians and Italians together and they seem to have an easy time conversing, so I’m guessing Romania “borrowed” a lot of words from italian
