Context: After the initial My Lai massacre, Hugh Thompson Jr, American Helicopter pilot, force landed his helicopter and the troops it was carrying in front of the Americans who did the massacre, and ordered the troops inside to point their guns on the other soldiers and fire if they killed any more civilians. At the time he was called a traitor but 30 years later he received a medal for bravery.
