Looks like it was possibly put in backwards and that the metal pin was already connected end-to-end to the plastic pin before being inserted into the larger piece.

The pin was put in the wrong position so when they injected the plastic it cured around the metal and plastic was injected where the metal goes as it was a void.

I think I’d keep this one on my desk as a curiosity. Sure looks like the metal pin is up inside the body of the push pin.
Too bad push pin errors aren’t worth the money of coin strike errors.
