the simplest litmus test for privilege is to tell someone you support abolishing the police. if they react with horror and/or consternation, they’re privileged.

I thought they already stated this position years ago, when two cops watched a guy get stabbed on the subway, then they argued they had no duty to intervene and assist.

The Supreme Court has upheld for a long time that police aren’t obligated to protect the public.
Don’t know the case situation here, but if the lawyers argued that, they’d be doing it with precedent, and it’s really not as shocking as people think.

I wonder how much money police departments across America are spending to support the hundreds of shitty cops shows shilling for them.

Police are employed to protect property owners from loss or damage of property. Same as always.
*TL;DR: Cory Sasser killed a woman after a slow speed chase, then a few years later killed his ex-wife, her new boyfriend, and himself. He managed to get his own son to help. So he probably wouldn’t have thought twice about killing anyone else.*
Getting rid of out local police force is what I think of when I think of Robert “Cory” Sasser participating in a **SLOW** speed chase down our main street, shooting a woman multiple times in the head, and then later killing himself and his ex-wife. Maybe it’s just too hard for some of them to do correctly. **TRIGGER WARNING: AJC link has a footage of the shooting at the top of the screen.**
The shocking amount of planning. Too bad he couldn’t think ahead of how he and his partner killed Caroline Small. TRIGGER WARNING: Some body cam footage.
Cops aren’t required by law to protect anyone or anything
so lets all ask everyone this:
If the cops aren’t required by law to protect the public, then why do they need the budget to arm themselves with military grade weaponry with no training??
I have a brother-in-law that is a state trooper and loves to bring up the proverbial argument of “if they hate the cops/ we’ll see what happens when someone breaks into their house and they call 911 for help”
and I’m just disgusted by that statement on so many levels.

There is another case about police standing by while a guy slashed patrons in a NYC subway. They did nothing to stop the attacks. They stood in a protected area and watched.

The job of the police is to enforce laws and arrest those who break laws. That job doesn’t begin until a person has already done something. If you want to build safer communities, make a society where people aren’t so impoverished and angry. Stop the crime from happening in the first place.
