    1. Cyrus The Great was always great all the time and he definitely didn’t die arrogant and foolish at the hand of a Scythian queen. Herodotus is a liar!

Thankfully all my favourite historical figures are glorious and unimpeachable and never did anything wrong 😌

Me as an adult revisiting my old hero, all turns out to be doing a religion based ethnic cleansing : 👁👁

    4. Hey, Tadeusz Kosciusko can be slandered for failing, but at least he didn’t do nearly as much isms as most other historical figures from his time period.

    5. Reading up on historical figures usually ends up being “Hey, that was really cool” followed by “Dude, Ewwww”

Jokes on you my historical hero is EA Nasir, the slander just makes his story better!

    8. “I love Christopher Columbus, I don’t give af.”

“He had babies heads smashed in with rocks.”

“Well. Uh. Columbus day gets us outta school….”

I remember tumblr’s “your fave is problematic” phase and I’m like “amateurs. We history buffs have been fully aware of how problematic our historical faves are for years.”

It’s more difficult to find historical figures who aren’t problematic, tbh.

Even my boy Honest Abe did some questionable shit.

At least my favorite historical figure has very few bad things to say about him. It’s Teddy Roosevelt by the way. Dude found the thieves who stole his boat and instead of taking the normal way out (for the time and place) and shoot them, he dragged them all the way to the closest town with a judge to have them properly prosecuted. This was in the middle of the frontier in ass-fuck nowhere and it was MILES and MILES of trekking through the wilderness. That’s how dedicated to justice Teddy was.

      Winston Churchill.

Hero of the UK, the right man for the job at the time to lead the country during WWII, but undoubtedly a massive racist, even judged by the standards of when he lived.

That said, I do NOT agree (as commonly seems to be asserted whenever the topic arises, which is surprisingly often on Reddit…) that he was personally responsible for the Bengal Famine.

The knights from the first crusade did nothing wrong! (Except from killing Jerusalem population)

Learning that WEB Dubois was the wettest blanket about jazz made me wonder if its a universal constant that warriors for equality be a little annoying.

My boy Maximilian Robespierre. Called The Incorruptable, until he turned out to be…pretty corrupt :/
