    1. For all of Roosevelt’s [disapproval](https://www.reddit.com/r/HistoryMemes/s/6njM5cOTLK) of the German assault on Belgium, he was by no means convinced that right, justice, and wisdom lay entirely on the side of the Allies. He credited Britain and, to a lesser extent, France with most of the virtues of civilization, but he had deep reservations about Russia and Japan. “I do not agree with you when you speak of this as being the last war for civilization,” he told Arthur Lee. “I see no reason for believing that Russia is more advanced than Germany as regards international ethics, and Japan with all her politeness and her veneer of western civilization is at heart delighted to attack any and every western nation whenever the chance comes.” With an incomplete prescience that echoed his earlier themes and vaulted him decades into the future, he warned, “If Germany is smashed it is perfectly possible that later she will have to be supported as a bulwark against the Slav by the nations of Western Europe, and while as regards the United States there can be little chance of hostility between us and Russia, there is always the chance of hostility between us and Japan, or Oriental Asia under the lead of Japan.”

Teddy Roosevelt didn’t need a Delorean, he just had a big stick and a very aggressive sense of intuition.

The USA and Japan were already at odds in the Pacific. It didn’t take that much genius to predict that.
