Probably the fact that they’re gonna need a lot of boots on the ground if they want to have a chance of winning this “not war”.

And by winning I mean killing a lot of people and securing the flow of oil.

Cmon J6ers, now’s your chance!! Go fight for your lord & savior Donny Trump.
Where’s all that big talk about freedoms & such??

    3. This probably has more to do with enlistment being down. Doubtful it is related to Iran, at least, not entirely.

Just for context, and I’m not defending our current administration, but the reason they did this is not because we secretly lost thousands of soldiers and the government is hiding it.

The reason they’re doing this is because nobody wants to join the military anymore. All branches of the military are experiencing a recruiting crisis where they can’t replace staff that left. It’s not hard to see why after we spent the last 20 years fighting forever wars for the benefit of oil companies. In addition, the military used to give you a level of economic stability, if you grew up poor you could use your service to put you into the middle class. Nowadays? You could fight in the military, lose a limb and guess what? You’re still poor, enjoy your Chevy Camaro . There’s no benefit to joining up

    5. Maybe the soldiers arent loyal like they thought; so now they need to recruit usefull idiots

They need the GWOT boys back. Gotta have people with actually experience to train the next group.

You do this when recruitment is down, and continues to trend down. That’s it.

The US is hiding the death of it’s solders is a weird propaganda angle. It would be impossible for the US military to hide losses like that. Not to mention the likely real reasons behind that changes is also deeply unpopular, a ground war in Iran. They could just push that and be more effective.

The more significant change is removing the NEED for a waiver for a single conviction of marijuana possession in order to enlist. It used to be that this waiver required approval by the Pentagon AND the person who wanted to enlist had to wait two years. The Army may simply be bowing to the reality of marijuana being available legally in many states.

The Army increased the maximum enlistment age to 42 during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, and it aligns the maximum entry age with other services. Army Basic Combat Training is ten weeks long, but One Station Unit Training for Infantry is a total of 22 weeks, so even if someone enlisted today and went to basic training by the end of the month, it would be early September before they graduated as an infantryman.

The average age of military enlistees has been increasing, from 21.4 years old in 2020 to 22,7 years old in fiscal year 2026. More people are willing to enlist when the economy is bad, but at the same time, 77% of draft-age men 18 to 25 are ineligible due to obesity, criminal records, or mental illness. I’d be more interested if use of the weight tables were suspended. If you are very fit, it is common for you to be overweight according to the table, In that case, you can qualify based on body fat content.

This is just like what happened during OIE/OEF. They went slack on a LOT of standards and changed their views on people joining. I had a dude in my basic training who was 39yrs old back in 2010.

I can already see this being another 20yr issue.

    11. It’s not that they’re hiding something, it’s that they’re planning something.

Our government isn’t capable of hiding thousands of military deaths. They’d have to silence the tens of thousands of friends and family members with little to lose and a lot to gain by exposing the coverup.

I just think recruitment is down and this is one way is improving that.

    13. Recruitment numbers have been down for years. The right will claim numbers were way up last year but I bet they probably are not going to make ground with the likely wave of retirements that probably just got requested.

    14. sweeetscience on

It’s mostly because they have been struggling to meet recruiting targets for years now. It’s difficult for young people to find the motivation to dedicate their bodies and minds to serve in a military that clearly operates to secure the interests of billionaire pedos.

    15. Competitive-Bee-3250 on

My guess is the intent is just to have more people in the military for the sake of consolidating power.

    16. I feel like there’d be no hiding thousands of deaths, let alone more than 6 that were reported.

    17. Mmw, we are already losing more personnel and equipment than we are being told. Why did they change enlistment age 7 years?

    18. On_my_last_spoon on

Recruitment has been down for years. I’m not sure this is anything more than trying to up their numbers in anticipation of needing more soldiers.

    19. you know what would help our dependance on oil, renewable energy. probably cost a lot less too.

    20. I’m in my early 30s and look at 18 year olds like they are a completely different species.

I can’t imagine a 41 year old in boot camp

    21. They probably realised that there are people over 42 who have a depth and breadth of professional knowledge and experience that they can put to good use in non-combat roles thereby freeing up young recruits for more physical, combat-facing roles.

    22. Vernknight50 on

They’re hiding that recruitment has probably failed to hit goals for a couple years now and they are hoping a couple of 34-37 year old guys are so hard up they’ll join.

    23. sdfiddler1984 on

I would believe that with all the OIF/OEF vets discouraging their kids from enlisting, along with the untrustworthy and unstable US Govt. They’re having a really hard time convincing even the poors to sign up to fight for their country (especially when theres no pay stability and they’re always trying to strip VA benefits). I’d recon enlistment and retainment numbers are in the shitter.

Trump is sending thousands of soldiers in Iran expecting them to get killed, just to justify his War. Every person in the military (or who has a family member in the military) should ask for his impeachment.

    25. Why isn’t there posts from us army about this. Even some ruzzians were posting about there losses that the kremlin was trying their hardest to stop from leaking.
