Doesn’t matter the race, doesn’t matter the gender, doesn’t even matter if you’re religious or not. The one thing we all have in common is that moral codes fly out the window the moment we smell a chance to get rich.

Replace Africans with Europeans and 1600s with 800s and that’s the Vikings.

Didn’t the British outlaw the slave trade first? I think Portugal would be a better partner.

“in the 1600s when they realize”? Mate, they’ve been selling “their own people” into slavery for millennia by the time the 1600s rolled around. The “Slavery in Africa” Wikipedia article is your friend.

    5. People in that era didn’t really consider others “their people” just because they shared a continent and skin color. Another tribe were literally just some random foreigners.

“Foreshadowing is a narrative device in which suggestions or warnings about events to come are dropped or planted.”

      “Sometimes, foreshadowing is relatively obvious…”

    7. There is something wrong though. Why do you distinguish between European nations, but you mush together all African. It makes it sound like they sold their friends and family. No it was rulers selling prisoners and enemy warriors.

In this context it would be like English waging war against the Irish to take slaves and sell them as workers to another country. Therefore they were not selling their own

Literally every color of human has sold their own color into slavery.
Not like it’s some one sided oddity…

    9. To Americans selling other Africans into slavery. They weren’t theirnown people. They people of a rival tribe or “people”. Seeing black Africans as all one people is pretty ignorant

    10. Africans hadn’t been told about racism yet, so they didn’t had the “their own people” concept.
Again the main driver wasn’t even money, because obviously it didn’t had much value for them, it was guns. Because without guns “their own people” from some enemy tribe would be doing it to them…

Muslims were enslaving North Africans and soon enough Sub-Saharan Africans as soon as Islam entered the African continent. They also raided and enslaved people from islands all across the Mediterranean and beyond, even reaching Scandinavia, the British Isles and even Iceland where corsairs raided and enslaved locals to take back to Muslim caliphates. As Islam expanded into Eastern Europe and the Iberian peninsula, so many slaves were taken that men could be castrated en-masse and those that managed to survive that still flooded the Islamic slave trade that at its height was enslaving people from Iceland to Indonesia. When Europeans pushed the Muslim caliphates out of the Iberian peninsula and “discovered” the Americas, there were plenty of well established Muslim slave markets in Northern Africa ready to sell enslaved Africans to the European Atlantic powers who were establishing colonies and plantations on the other side of the Atlantic. Europeans certainly tried to set up slavery operations of their own on the west coast of the African continent, but they were comparatively incompetent at it and it was easier to buy slaves from the Muslim slave traders anyway.

    12. People forgetting that Africans in the 1600s weren’t a uniform nation or state but several decentralized tribes, all with their own agendas and some of them being scummy enough to practice the very slavery europeans are often labelled with (and to their credit, they DID help regarding the Atlantic Slave Trade itself)

Famously no other culture did this. The Vikings for example would never sell Christians to Muslims in Spain. The Russians never sold Finns to the Middle East either. The British also never exploited the Irish either. Yk, their own people.
