    1. Manufactured 1969-1991 and still flying 35 years later, that’s an incredible run!

    2. There was a organization trying to get a F-14 out of Iran to fly at air shows. I guess that’s over now

    3. When I was younger, my dad and I would always go to airshows, actually to this day I still do. So I was actually able to see this plane multiple times fly and let me tell you, what an amazing machine of power it was. I wish they still had some that they could fly just for airshows alone.

    4. I love how the US is so war centric, when they goto war they goto war against their own weapons they exported to spread war.

    5. Man. This vet feels old.

I worked (ABH) around these on the flight deck of the Kitty Hawk (CV-63), in the 90s.

      End of an era.

    6. The closest I got was getting to ride in the simulator at Grumman. Such an awesome machine.

    7. In case anyome is wondering, there are still some F-14 airframes sitting around in the Boneyard in Tucson, Arizona. Some are more… intact… than others, and it’s basically a pipe-dream for someone to somehow make an airworthy jet out of them. One can hope though :’)

Here’s a list of all the coordinates for the remains I found:
      32°10’15.68″N 110°51’03.37″W – Full Body
      32°08’48.93″N 110°50’03.61″W – Full Body
      32°08’48.94″N 110°50’04.49″W – Full Body
      32°08’48.89″N 110°50’07.60″W – Full Body
      32°08’48.87″N 110°50’08.46″W – Full Body
      32°08’46.26″N 110°49’53.90″W – Partial Body

There is still 1 out there…….somewhere.

    9. I see them at the air show, each & every memorial day and leave slightly deaf from the incredible sonic boom when they break the sound barrier. A souvenir I suppose, lol.

There most definitely is airworthy F-14’s in the world.

I enjoyed the fight scenes at the end of the movie, when they they only fired missiles and never used their guns.

    11. I guess in 65 million years they’ll be digging up her titanium wing box as that’ll be all that’s left.

    12. This is the plane that made me want to be a pilot. I ended up as a fat autist instead, but goddamn if it wasn’t an inspiring piece of machinery.

ok this one actually made me kinda sad… i grew up watching top gun with my older brother and i used to think the f-14 was like the coolest thing ever 😭 feels weird knowing something that iconic is just… gone now. like part of my childhood just quietly retired too lol

I’ve seen this headline so many times I just assume they are in a perpetual state of uncertainty

Forever thankful we live in a timeline where the Shah was stupid enough to pick the tomcraps over the F-15

I know they’re super expensive to maintain but it’s a crying shame – they were the closest thing we had to the jets in Macross.

What about The Final Countdown? I think that film had better aerial shots than TG. Don’t @ me

So my tax dollars have destroyed the tax dollars that my parents paid, which originally destroyed the tax dollars that my grandparents paid.

“An F14, against 5th gen fighters”. “It’s not the plane, it’s the pilot”

    21. It had a really good run. As others have said, the US restricted the sale of replacement parts for years because Iran had F-14s. I think the cost of maintenance for the F-14 became a detriment compared to the F-18.

Looking forward to seeing the 1st privately owned f-14 Tomcat at some airshow someday.
