Good God I wish my local spot did this. The amount of celery I’ve wasted for a couple stalks is too damn high!

I live alone and love it that I can buy just enough celery, carrots, and onion to make stock with the carcass of the rotisserie chicken I’m about to pick up from the deli hot case.
And, they can make use of the interior of bunches that get bruised and wilted, or stalks that break off during handling.
Efficiency ftw !

I’d love that. I like me some celery but I never need the full amount

Very, very mild. This is normal where I live, and also I don’t remember the last time I needed a significant amount of an entire bundle.

only way you could find something more mildly interesting in Safeway is to get excited that apples are in stock, or maybe grapes! it just doesn’t get more mildly interesting than that!

Maybe they had a bunch. 🤷🏻♂️

This should be more common. I hate celery but unfortunately know that I need it for certain recipes. Kinda hate buying a whole stalk, just to throw away half of it.

Lots of places do that.

I love when you can do this. First, they usually taste way better than the large packages. Second, they’re perfect for the way I like to use them–mainly as a base for soups and stews. Same thing with carrots.

Wrap celery in foil and it will last like 2 weeks

I just noticed this at one of my stores. I’m all for it. the two celery sticks I need for a tuna or a brother end up being a whole bunch in a jar of water until it rots.

I wish all ingredients could be bought this way. Even better, how nice would it be if grocery stores sold pre-portioned meals ready to cook like those mail services like Blue Apron do? It’d cut down on so much food waste

Every store should do this. There are times when all I need is one or two celery stalks, dang it!

Man, when I was younger you had to go to the store on the other side of town to buy singles.

Great idea. Meijer near me sells loose carrots. Sometimes I only need 2-3 for a recipe

Our local Kroger does this. Carrots too.

I don’t understand what people are doing with celery that they can’t finish a whole bunch.
It’s not like it goes bad quickly, it takes weeks.

I think it’s weird that many people don’t already have this option. My local stores sell “loosies” pretty much everywhere.

I’m happy when I can buy a single carrot. This is amazing

For a time my local Vons was selling bananas per each instead of by the lb. It only lasted a few weeks though.

Never seen this. Likely because celery is one of the least expensive vegetables and while I try not to waste food, if a few stalks wilt before I get a chance to use them, I’m not lose any sleep over it.
Tired-CottonCandy on
Its technically more expensive but its also cheaper because i have to buy a whole bunch for $3 or one for $1.50 and im definitely only using the one.
GotLoveForAll on
Finally. I never bought them before because what am I going to do with more than one stalk?

My wife says I’m the only person she knows that loves celery by itself. Anyone else adore the taste? It’s like crunchy refreshing grass.
