This photo shows a pair of twins celebrating their 35th birthday, each holding their newborn daughters — the last children for both of them. At the time, the sisters lived next door to each other, and between the two families they had eight children running around the neighborhood.
The birthday cake in the picture was made by one of their husbands, and the curtains behind them really capture the era perfectly. The windows you see in the background were actually just replaced last year because they’d become too energy‑inefficient after all these decades.
The image was scanned from an old negative, and I thought this community might enjoy this little slice of everyday life from the late 60s — family, celebration, and a home full of kids and love.

Lovely twins
There’s a couple of tired moms.
What a wonderful photo to remember the day! I’m glad those windows held up during the decades and only recently had to be replaced. 8 kids between the two of them, sounds like a great time to grow up with all those siblings and cousins running around. I come from a small family and was an only child until my teen years, so it’s fun to imagine what life would be like with a large family. Thanks so much for sharing! 🤗😄
Did all the kids resemble each other?
those curtains are a total throwback
