In Ottawa, Illinois there’s an abandoned Volvo that’s been stranded on a small rocky island since 2012. It’s even marked on Google Maps as “Volvo Island.”

If that was a Toyota, just bring a gallon of Gas and it’ll run just fine like nothing happened

The most amazing part is how little it’s been vandalized or tagged.

In nice shape for being parked outside over water for 14 years.

Backstory:
A local named Scott Mann owns both two car-repair shops and the lake/abandoned mine.
He towed the Volvo into place, then used digging equipment to remove the “peninsula” to form an island.
The more you know, the less interrupting the story becomes.

Used to have an S80 like that. Forrest green, wipers on the headlights and everything. That thing was a beast. T-boned some dude at 60kph, minimal damage but insurance wrote it off. RIP old friend.

Funnily enough, Volvos have great seals.. I bet the interior is in better shape than you’d think.

This is the literal least interesting thing about Ottawa.
Google “radium city”, starved rock state park, Lincoln Douglas debates, and Native American history of the area. It’s rich with early American history.

There are 3 Volkswagen Beetles hanging in the trees on the edge of the lake now too.
Don’t ask. I don’t get it either.

I’ve had nightmares like this; driving a car along side a waterbody and becoming inexplicably stuck or the land giving way allowing the car to fall into the water.
