What was it before this style?
The don’t think I ever saw this style still being used, I was born in 84 so by the time I was forming memories it was the type we have now.
Edit: I was curious and found [this](https://youtu.be/fYzgKGQfzXs?si=dUiR_H0–eI-Wk-G) . Intersting, though I thought maybe there would be a few other variations between punching a hole and pull tabs.

Did people just litter their pop tops? I saw an old commercial that showed people dropping the pop top in the can of beer but that seems unsafe.

My Father used to go Coney Island to swim, beer cans had that pop top, he cut his foot on one. Buried in the sand it opened up a nice gash, sending him to Coney Island Hospital for stitches not a nice experience.
