Universal Health Care is such a difficult thing to implement, only 32 out of 33 supposedly “Developed” nation in the world have managed it.

We have healthcare. It’s just kind of a one off thing. You have one serious accident or problem and you are just destitute forever.

United Health Care’s wet dreams.
Healthcare CEOs and insurers are the true nightmare to the American dream.
“We have reviewed your case and have denied your request”
1. In 2023, Sheldon Ekirch was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy, a painful condition. Her specialists recommended a series of infusions to ease her suffering, but her insurer refused to pay, claiming the treatment was *“not considered medically necessary.”* This denial persisted despite bipartisan efforts to reform prior authorization policies
2. At age 15, Emily Dwyer needed urgent treatment for anorexia. Her parents were forced to refinance their home after UnitedHealthcare denied coverage. Courts later criticized the insurer’s reliance on internal doctors whose decisions contradicted treating physicians and best practices in mental health care
3. One individual shared that their insurance company denied coverage for a hospital stay following a stroke, stating it wasn’t *“medically necessary.”* This is part of a broader pattern where insurers override physician recommendations, even in life-threatening situations
4. One patient who was paralyzed from the chest down was prescribed a specialized wheelchair by their doctor. The chair included features like tilt and recline, which were medically necessary to prevent pressure sores and improve circulation. Cigna denied the claim, stating the chair was *“not medically necessary”* despite multiple physician letters supporting its use. The patient had to appeal and wait months before the decision was reversed

Oddly as an American I have never experienced this. Ya we pay more for a hospital visit. But by my calculations so far in my life I have saved hundreds of thousands over say UK healthcare or Canadian healthcare.

Last week me an European went to the dentist for my 1/2 year check up and cleaning. Then afterwards I opened my healthcare provider app took a picture of the bill and invoiced it. Had the money back on my account the next day..

Why is insurance to blame? How about we criticize doctors who charge too much? Or letigious patients that sue for no reason?
Maybe fix cause and not effect. Then insurance carriers go away.
