Meet the Edelweiss Pirates circa 1940: They were German teens who caused mayhem for Nazis with jazz, street fights, and sabotage. They hiked, danced, helped deserters, and even planned attacks on the Gestapo. Once seen as criminals, they were only recently recognised as resistance fighters.
I did a Presentation about them in history class 15 years ago and nobody said they ***aren’t*** Resistance fighters.

I wonder how many of them survived the war? The nazis brutalized a lot of Germans for not conforming to their ideology.

These ‘rebel’ teens are so properly dressed compared to teens today!

The film Swing Kids stars a young Robert Sean Patrick and a young Christian Bale and is about youth who rebelled against the Nazis through music and culture. They were a separate counterculture group to the Edelweiss Pirates, but this reminded me of that.

I read a book about them, it was devastating. Every time I see the word Edelweiss, I have a visceral reaction.

[Teenagers as young as 15 were arrested, tortured for months, and in some cases publicly hanged](https://www.utterlyinteresting.com/post/the-edelweiss-pirates-the-teenage-rebels-who-defied-hitler) without trial by the Nazis simply for refusing to conform.
When were they recognised?
