Surprised we don’t have dynamic speed limits yet (with digital signage). Would change based on time of day and weather conditions.

I saw some minimum speeds when I was traveling in Vermont this winter, I didn’t even register that was a thing until then (I’m from a state that doesn’t have posted minimums)
Thatsaclevername on
In Montana if you’re going too slow in the left lane (people are stacking up behind you) or you’re going too slow on the highway in general, they’ll give you a ticket. Obviously sometimes there’s exceptions like towing a trailer or something, but it’s really good highway policing.

1 – those speeds are in km/h
2- Minimums are only on highways

in the us the speed limit is treated as the minimum lol

FWIW driving too slow on controlled access highways can get you a ticket, the difference being there isn’t a specific minimum speed, it’s the officers discretion whether your speed was impeding traffic or not

This is km/h and not mph, right?

In The Netherlands too but it’s implicit. There’s a minimum speed your vehicle needs to be able to do to be allowed on specific types of roads. It’s to avoid people from going onto motorways with agricultural vehicles and mopeds.

As well as ridiculously slow speed limit maximums – 100km/h is 62mph

These are in the U.S. too in most states.

Ontario on any 100+ road. On 100s its 60 km/h as well. You dont belong on the highway if you cant go at least 60.

Which is perfect when you’re doing 110, and the car in front of you swerves to reveal some comatose dipshit doing 60 in the passing lane.

A lot of people are saying the US has this too, but they’re not posted as much any more. When I was a kid there were speed minimum signs below every speed limit sign on I80. I haven’t seen a single one between Lincoln Nebraska and Iowa City. If they exist they’re certainly far less common.

They do in Hawaii as well cause everyone is on Hawaiian time.

Where I live people be doing 100km/h 60mph and they go as fast as 130kmh 80mph sometimes faster!
Speed is dangerous, but speed differentials are what really matters for traffic safety. We can’t have some people going 120 and some going 20

This is normal, accidents also happen because of low speed

Even where it’s not posted there’s usually some threshold where you can be charged with dangerous or reckless driving for operating too far below prevailing traffic.

In Germany the Autobahn also has a minimum speed requirement for vehicles. Your vehicle has to be able to at least drive 61 kmph. No upper limits though.

In AB I’ve never seen them displayed like this but I’ve definitely seen signs telling people not to use the highway if their vehicle can’t move more than X km/h. It’s to stop someone trying to take their tractor on the highway or some shit.

I knew a girl in HS that had Grandparents that drove 50 on the highway, you could almost catch them on a bike, they got issued a ticket for impeding, went to court and the judge tossed it, based on the grounds its a farming town with lots of slow moving traffic and there’s no real hazard to anyone paying attention.
