That was the headline of my 3x great-grandma, Albertina Henning’s obituary. It read as follows:
Mrs. Louis Hass died Monday, November 7 [1927], at the home of her son, William Hass, with whom she made her home, ten miles northeast of Wells. Mrs. Hass had been in poor health for some time, having been bed ridden the last fourteen months. About three years ago she lost her sight.
Mrs. Hass was born in Altendorf, Germany, December 3, 1838, and on December of this year would have been 89 years old. As Miss Albertina Henning, she was married May 5, 1864 to Louis Hass while still living in Germany. The couple emigrated to America, landing at Mapleton April 26, 1889. After living on a farm there for three years, they moved to the old home place northeast of here thirty-two years ago, and this has been Mrs. Hass' home since. Her husband died January 10, 1917. The couple celebrated their golden wedding in 1914.
As a result of her long residence here and fine character Mrs. Hass had a wide acquaintance and great number of friends. She was the mother of six children, namely, Mrs. Jennie Pitcher of Easton, deceased; Mrs. Louis Schwartz of Austin, Fred Hass of Hector, Mrs. Minnie Wendorf of Olivia, Mrs. Fred Koehler of Bird Island and William Hass on the old home place and with whom she lived. There are also twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-four great grand children. All of the children were present for the funeral, which was held Wednesday, November 9, at 1 o'clock from the house and from the M. E. Church, Wells, at 2 o'clock. Burial was in Rosehill cemetery beside her husband.
