According to a nationwide poll by the VTsIOM, 54% respondents saw Tsar Nicholas favourable while 51% saw Stalin favourably.
23% and 28% saw them unfavorably respectively rest being unsure.

Russia’s political spectrum in general just… doesn’t work properly (and not even in the 90s, so it isn’t just… current politics’s fault). A lot of it might be because Yeltsin failed to build democracy properly in Russia.
Even in the 90s Russia was “remarkable” for what it lacked in its own spectrum. No non-imperialists? No center-left at all?
