      The lack of profit motive will not stop me from getting my cousin to tip the fighter competition in my favor

    2. The Soviets removed competition so well that Mikoyan-Gurevich and Sukhoi kept leapfrogging each other with rival prototypes that sometimes never even saw production. Not competition tho, just vibes

      Nothing promotes efficiency like zero competition. Just ask your local monopolist.

      As other commenters have said, this is because in the absence of profit-seeking, Rent-seeking still very much exists. Just tax land.

      The nation with the biggest gun can hold other nations hostage. Only when they are on an even playing field can neither hold the other hostage.

      You can put people in a different socioeconomic system, but they’ll still be people.

      No socioeconomic system can fix that. Some can make it worse (and I’d argue that many intended to fix things are some of the worst), but you can’t keep people from being people.
