My father was born in 1946, out of wedlock while my nanas husband was overseas. When the husband came back, he told her to get rid of my dad. He went to live with his aunt for a couple of years during which my nana left her husband. Then she married grandpa Tony (man in pictures) and together they raised my dad. Tony adopted my dad and stayed in his life, even after the two divorced, until Tony died in 2001. Very grateful for Grandpa Tony.

    1. I’m happy to know that he was in a loving and accepting family. There were so many children who were sent to orphanages during that time….and well after.

One of my friends was adopted shortly after her birth in 1964. There was such a social (and religious, in her case) stigma about unmarried women who had babies.
