You don’t have to teach your ears how to hear the words, just understand them. Unlike speaking, where you have to understand *and* teach your vocal track to produce it.
They genuinely have a decent grasp on those few words well before they can reproduce them

They only repeat last word always so “Say Mama” == Mama

Parents did not teach babies words like “mama”, “dada”, “papa”, etc, babies taught the adults that those sounds are the common first sounds that babies make and they put those noises on themselves.
