Hot take: DLSS 5 is fine as long as it’s optional

man that’s why I hate anime becoming mainstream ruining your favorite shows with this kinda shit and not even providing a proper source so I can avoid it

Considering the hardware requirements I can’t see it being anything other than optional.

Like DLSS4.5, the 6x framegen only works on 50xx series cards, so if any devs make it a requirement, they are shooting themselves in the foot.

    3. I mean anything is fine if it’s optional, but dlss 5 is definitely not the direction I want to encourage nvidia/game developers to go

DLSS 5 as long as face changing is a setting. Improving to shadows and materials? Good. Changing the face? Absolutely not.

    5. Even if it is optional, it doesn’t work properly. The demo was made by using two 5090, cause it can’t work real-time otherwise.

    6. Given the direction of frame generation in general, I don’t think it’ll be optional for long

    7. The problem with this take is that it encourages the path of least resistance and least expenses for big devs, kinda what we are seeing now with some titles and upscalers or even rt. Sure maybe you can play almost whatever without those settings, but you will find bad optimization and poor light work done in the name of saving a few dollars for the exec, i mean i was playing hogwarts legacy and apparently we just forgot how to make a mirrors without raytracing, there will be a lot of games that may forgo optimization and good texture work just because they are counting on this to patch their holes, the artstyle will take a hit. Not something to worry right now, as in nobody has gpus capable of pulling this off, but in a not so distant future it may be.

      It’s optional until it isn’t

The thing is, is gonna be optional yes, but how optional can be a tool that its used as the base? I mean, all dlss are optional, but a lot of games devs build their games with dlss in mind, cutting a lot of corners with the safety that it provides, and optional in that case seems really subjective

That potion was such a scam, waste of good clothing. Lazy fuck just undress what the hell? Do you have any idea how long it takes to make clothes in a medieval setting??

inb4 DLSS5 is “optional” but required everywhere because current rendering techniques make the image noisy af, and it’s easier to force upscaling/AI beautification than to come up with new rendering technology, just like what happened with TAA.

The way it fills in detail on faces seems particularly fit for use with Unreal games with their plasticky, overly smooth skin
