That’s kinda surprising with the music streaming services out there right now…. I used to listen to vinyl when I was a youngster but not since the early 80’s

And $5,872.00 worth of them actually ended up on a turntable. /s

Lots of hipsters preferring inferior sound (thoroughly documented).

Not shocking when albums are $40+ and every release has 8 pressing variations for the kids to collect.
I dig it though. I love going to my local record store that barely hung in there for a few decades to see them enjoying the comeback.

And with today’s prices I’ll bet it’s less than half of the units sold in ‘83

I stopped buying them because the prices got out of control.

I haven’t bought a vinyl record in two decades but plan to soon. Clutch’s Sunrise on Slaughter Beach vinyl package looks so freaking sweet.

Adjusted for inflation, though, that 1 billion in 1983 dollars = 3.34 billion in 2025 dollars.

$25 for an LP is nuts.

Used to be a record store in the mall near me. About a dozen years ago it was down to one table with vinyl, the rest was CDs and DVDs or BluRays. Then about five years ago or so, more and more vinyl but at inflated prices. Then, the mall raised their rent and forced them out of business. 😡

Granted this isn’t due to increased sales, just inflation lol

So I heard somewhere where that Taylor Swift fans were buying up a huge amount of vinyl this year because of some special albums she put out.

it turns out having physical media that you exclusively control and own that doesn’t have ads or a subscription tied to it is very appealing.
