    1. someone i know went through 5 rounds of interviews for a 40k (canadian) coding job lol. shit is crazy right now.

    2. Not just gaming industry or developers, I’m seeing this with project/program managers and systems/functional analysts and devs x-industry. HR acting like AI has already taken everyone’s jobs and they’re out there begging.

    3. I’m putting in salary expectations 40% less than my last role and still not getting hired. Fun times.

    4. Remember how people used to say you need a degree to be successful? Well not to long ago people started saying you need to be good with computers to be successful. It’s just coming full circle again. Most of the future Starbucks employees will be people that put their life efforts into coding.

    5. The AI hype probably adds to that perception. Some companies seem to think productivity will magically double or that fewer people will be needed, even though in reality most teams still rely heavily on experienced workers to ship things.

    6. We are reaching the end of the “ever growing profit pie” myth.
      If they want to please their investors, they have to cut to increase profits.
      AI is an excuse, not a reason.

    7. We also need to educate ourselves on what our work is actually worth so the baseline doesn’t keep drifting downward. I am pro unions

    8. Lorvintherealone on

      i was once like;
      “do you need to fill the position?”
      “we do.”
      “so, i know im no one… to tell you how to do your job but. Unless you find a VERY desperate senior arist, you wont fill it with that pay.”

      needless to say i didn’t get the job, but it was funny to see they upped the pay on the job by almost double afterwards.

    9. Senior title is literally one above junior. Senior engineers and junior engineers are a thin line. Senior engineers are just junior engineers who’s been working for few more years.

    10. Triple-A publishers shut down dev studios because of financial reasons, meanwhile CEOs give themselves a raise. Nothing makes sense other than suits wanting more profits, wider margins and satisfying investors, at the cost of the gaming industry which they couldn’t care less about.

    11. Not in the gaming industry but I get a lot of attention from head hunters on LinkedIn who either seem surprised that I’m asking for the salary in my first message or tell them they’re 20-40% under the market in my second message.

      They also seem surprised when I won’t tell them my current salary.
