South Koreans youths are averaging 5 hours 49 minutes of sleep.
Even the most infamous, most Spartan institutions in China like [Hengshui Highschool](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hengshui_High_School) enforce lights out before 22:30 and the students technically get ~7 hrs of sleep until they are awoken at 5:30. And being under such a regiment is a privilege that has to be earned in the previous entrance exam. Most don’t even get to go to a college-entrance-prep style high school.

I had a Chinese penpal that was getting ready for entrance exams and was using me to help study actual conversational English or pointing out basic mistakes since the language teachers she had weren’t native speakers, and it was insane to me what her schedule was like and the pressure despite her already being in a fairly wealthy family. It’s been years and I lost contact with all my penpals but I hope she made it through all that

I think if you’re diligent at school Chinese parents are just as strict with their children as western ones. At least my Chinese friend from Shanghai is being given plenty time to game and sleep
