Lot of american ‘leftists’ have this bizarre worldview where only America has agency in the world. It all stems from deeply engrained American exceptionalism; so all things that happen must therefore be the result of America/the CIA somehow because they cannot comprehend that people in other places have agency to do things, good or bad. themselves. Their self-flagellation just looks to outsiders basically the same as super right wing American patriotism.

Idk, maybe because the CIA did in fact coordinate [a lot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_involvement_in_regime_change) of “revolutions” that resulted in the overthrow of “non-cooperative” regimes and instating more “cooperative” dictatorships? [The chaos they created in latin America alone](https://www.cato.org/research-briefs-economic-policy/consequences-cia-sponsored-regime-change-latin-america) is damning enough
