      Fun fact, the pic, apparently, was taken by the Laufer a german anthropologist, who was sent in a sort of “mission” with other British anthropologists to document China (he himself was expert in the field of East Asian languages). Also, it seems that he took 140 (or something more, don’t remember the exact number) pics documenting during this expedition to document culture/life in China. From what I’ve found online, it is disputed the “paternity” for a lot of the pics, because it seems that they were just available for purchase at the time

      The craziest thing about this photo is that it was the type you had to stand still for a long time too. So he’s posing with GUSTO!
