The reasons why pregnant women get an ultrasound and not an MRI are cost, comfort and convenience.
MRIs are incredibly loud, super expensive and typically have a long queue of patients. Ultrasounds are cheaper, a lot less hassle, way more comfortable for the patient and good enough for the job at hand.
I would actually have loved an MRI image of my kids instead of the little “bean” photos, lol
