The claws are perhaps less silly than they appear . Early spacewalks on Project Gemini were fraught with difficulty and danger – partly because there was little to hold on to and anchor yourself in order to do any useful work – Newton rules ! I've included a 2nd version of this image which I nearly posted by itself – see the problem ?

The school library had this book when I was a kid and I returned to it over and over again. I could NOT stop staring at the claw-foot and that awesome cone-rocket in the background.
