They tried to solve this issue with project Plowshare. Apparently setting off like 17 hydrogen bombs to dig a canal was a bad idea though. Now we just have to use the boring ass Suez canal not a rad as fuck canal dug with nuclear weapons. JFK said no because it would cause unbelievable amounts of fallout and radiation in the region rendering the canal as totally useless. What a coward, just nuke a new river into existence.
