gamers just want to stop the spread so it doesnt cross over into the games they do play

    2. i mean… some games and studios deserve to fail.
especially if they thought they were gonna change the world with the poor work they did.

    3. It’s not that I want marathon to fail, I expect Bungie to fuck it up. Only difference is whether they get more players hooked in the start only to ruin everything later, like they did with Destiny.

If they don’t ever intend to play it, then there’s no difference. Good games do well regardless. If lots of people are not playing the game, this simple fact alone does a lot more damage than anything they could say. And it is a symptom, not a cause

    5. I only think that way towards Marathon because I’ve played both Destiny games since the beginning and have been burned by Bungie time and time again. Of course I’ve quit at this point but you know a red flag when you see one

I literally haven’t seen any discourse like this. Most people just don’t care. Game was fine, not for me

    7. If only corporations actually innovate, instead of keep pulling the lever to gamble millions away on a completely over-saturated market.

    8. I’m just tired of extraction shooters I think they’re low effort kind of boring.

    9. You jest, but it’s completely normal to advocate for a healthier industry which respects its customers.

Also, Bungie specifically has proven time and time again that they don’t deserve our goodwill.

    10. The praying and celebrations for downfalls will continue until the execs of these studios and publishers learn the bloody lesson.

I am old enough to play the first Marathon, that game was groundbreaking this is something else not really sure what it is.

    12. Ya thats how it works. I wouldnt pray for the downfall of a game i play because if i play it i probably enjoy it. I *did* play the original Marathon though, which was great. So ya Im gonna pray on the downfall of the people who have massacred the franchise and are marionetting its corpse.

    13. i hate on marathon because bungie literally abandoned destiny 2. i was still playing and hoping for the best

    14. I’m just tired of being drip fed the content I actually want to pay for and not having it wrapped up in a bunch of useless, expensive extra shit

    15. Some games can effect the status quo regardless if you play them or not, which can spread to other studios and enshittify other things. Hoping a shit cash-grab of a game fails so it doesn’t give other studios bad ideas seems pretty normal.

    16. It’s not the game itself I want to fail, it’s the greedy corporate practices of live service games.

But hey, if you wanna spend money on a game you will one day no longer be able to boot up due to server shut downs, then that’s your business.

Escape from Tarkov is a game that deserves this shit to happen for sure. The game came out in beta in 2017 and is still a flaming pile of dogshit 9 YEARS LATER even after they released 1.0.

The PVP is absolutely overrun w cheaters and no life sweats to the point you can’t even play the game as a casual anymore.

I personally couldn’t think of a dev team more deserving of failure than BSG.

    18. The recent news about that game with its monetization and asking reviewers to hold off for a month to review the game they released kinda just proved my feelings I’ve had right, though. I’m gonna beat on the drum for newer gamers that don’t realize what Bungie is now, even if the game is good, I know who is running it and it will fail because of that.

You can take a drunk driver out of his shitty Honda Accord and put him behind the wheel of a shiny, new Ferrari, he’s still going to crash the damn thing.

    19. It’s Bungie. Don’t worry, everyone, they will screw up it just take a while its called the Bungie Honeymoon. Those that played Destiny 2 know it very well.

    20. Hey look that’s me in much better health going for the downfall of GTA 6 and TES 6

    21. charizard732 on

It’s Bungie. Even if Marathon is great at release, they’ll ruin it eventually

    22. Some games actively degrade the entire industry (for the consumer) so it’s fine to root for their downfall.

It’s also sad because often genuinely good games or games with high potential (Anthem) get canned and shut down because the Publisher can’t be bothered to fix it or at least keep it running and trash games built purely to milk money out of players go on forever.

    23. It’s entertaining, and I’m tired of pretending it’s not. What else will I watch on YouTube while eating if not failed video games drama?

    24. I actually don’t pray for any of these games to fail.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy watching them fail.

A lot of these games are the result of publishing companies and developers ignoring the gaming market. It sucks for the employees who ultimately eat the failure in the form of unemployment. But the truth is with the rate of indie & sub-AAA games success these same devs who really want to make a game can do so and potentially be rewarded.

    25. For me, it’s because of the stolen art. I don’t care that they tried to make it right later, for me it’s too late. They’ve already lost me as a customer forever, and I grew up playing Bungie games.

      Bungie changed, big time

The times I wish for this is when a company makes a money sink game that has no soul and encourages other companies to make more of them. Especially if the games are from a great series and they turn it into an MMO that makes them stop making the series the way it used to be.

    27. Hour-Garbage4796 on

On the other side of the spectrum you have slay the spire 2 with almost half a million concurrent players, gamers are speaking loud and clear.

    28. It’s bungie we’re talking about, anybody that knows what they did with Destiny2 and its paid content should wish for their downfall.

Barely released & just look at the approach they went with in their Marathon Battlepass, it just shows the color & way they keep handling their games & the amount of respect they have for their playerbase

    29. ImaginaryProfit6280 on

I mean, that’s kinda how it works? If you don’t like it, don’t play it or spend money on it.

Your game doesn’t make money? Then find out why people didn’t buy it.

    30. Logical_Flounder6455 on

You wouldnt be praying on the downfall of a game you wanted to play

    31. there is nothing wrong to pray for game full of corporate crap to fail.

I don’t know about Marathon because i didn’t play it but i wouldn’t start crying if every COD games undersell and crash since it got to a point where there is no art in it anymore and only a product meant to be sold and nothing more.

    32. Stuck_in_my_TV on

If more games in genres they hate fail, they hope the loss will teach the gaming studios those types aren’t popular and they will spend the next investment into something the player is interested in.

    33. KingOfAzmerloth on

MMORPG discourse is like this for real.

In no other subgenre I had experience with this as strong with MMOs. The tribalism here is insane.

Just don’t play what you don’t like lol.

    34. NGL I was expecting it to crash and burn, but it’s doing alright, not great but it’s not highguard either

    35. It comes a lot from destiny 2 players (me, so heavily biased) who feel like D2 was abandoned for this “new” game. Bungo removed a lot of incredible talent from d2 then announced this new game while their flagship was bleeding players. To say im upset about this is an understatement so take my comment with a QUARRY of salt cause right now I don’t feel like Bungo desrves a win.

      Yours truly,
      A scorned D2 player
