Almost looks like circuitry. The amount of skill needed to make this must have been exceptional!

There’s a center stone/slug of irregular shape. Or is it some sort of metallic (iron?) loop for fixing a handle to the back?

The whole shield has amazing craftsmanship so the irregular center stands out even more.

then when the researcher’s buddy leans next to it and accidentally touches a battery to the edge, it falls flat and a hologram of the galaxy appears above it……

zhou turquoise art always reminds me of central american work with turquoise and jade. I wonder if the cleavage characteristics of the medium sorta enforce certain design patterns, and then motifs develop from there.

Must’ve been gold damascene. Incredible work, truly a form of art in desperate need to be preserved.

    6. I’m trying to imagine what this would have looked like before the bronze oxidised

Turquoise will change color and darken over time in jewelry, mostly due to oils from the skin. The bright blue turquoise in this is what all of the green likely looked like when it was made.
