Awful stuff for sure and quite possibly illegal. I doubt it was unarmed, it would be highly unusual for any Navy ship, of any country to be unarmed. War of any kind is the pinnacle of human stupidity, but Iran with it’s extremist theocracy was a carbuncle on the thigh of humanity.

    2. Heard this ship was unarmed and part of a military exercise with Indian and the US. The US took it as an opportunity to attack it while on its way back to Iran.

I’m not a supporter of this illegal war, but this was/is a valid target, in war. Combatant vessels are always valid targets, if not considered Hors de Combat, which wouldn’t apply to this ship in this state.

If the commander of the vessel was concerned about the life of his crew, he could have surrendered the ship to the US in India. The ship was a completely valid military target. The US had no capacity, and thus no responsibility, to conduct rescue operations. Every sailor knows that the moment they leave port, they are vulnerable to the enemies of their nation.

    5. According to this website: https://www.ifrmilan26.com/

“Key activities included *Surface Firings*, Anti Air & Anti-Submarine Warfare Exercises, Cross Deck Helicopter Operations and Aircraft Carrier Operations.”

Sure sounds to me like they were armed.

While it may not have been actively engaged in combat at that specific moment, it was on its way back to Iran and would most likely be engaged in combat at that time. That likely makes it a valid target for this operation.

    6. So my country just out here committing war crimes. Also India was in on it. Disgusting behavior. Also realize with the Epstein files they obviously treat Americans the same way they do people in foreign countries. USA is just one big Ponzi scheme with the judge also being in on it so no one goes to jail. All as the American dollar is collapsing and while funding and arming the Kurds to create a civil war in Iran. All fueled on my tax dollar.

Is it that US can be on the offensive? I’m no fan of this war or the administration. But thing about combat is someone has to start it. When the US does we are war criminals. When terrorists do. It’s well what did you expect?

This is the military equivalent of shooting a lady in the face 3x while she’s driving away from you. Utterly shameful, but not exactly surprising. I’m so ashamed of this country right now

What a deplorable and evil thing the US government just did. Fucking disgusting.

The game of thrones writers “they just sorta forgot Iran was at war”

    11. No one feels bad for the US blowing up a warship. There are plenty of other actual tragedies happening around the world. You don’t need to manufacture more outrage.

Yeah, sure let’s send our warship unarmed out for “training” during an actual war lmao this didn’t happen.

      I don’t want this war

Under the Law of Armed Conflict, a state of war creates a *kill on sight* rule for military equipment.

The LoAC is basically a gentleman’s agreement that both the United Nations and the International Criminal Court recognize, but they use it for very different purposes.

Since Operation Epic Fury started on February 28, the United States and Iran are officially in a state of active hostilities.

In this legal framework, any enemy warship is a valid target the moment it is identified.

It does not matter if the ship is currently attacking or just sailing peacefully in international waters.

I don’t want this war. I don’t condone this war.

    14. TheSomerandomguy on

If they intending on laying down their arms, they could’ve sailed into a nearby port and been safely interned there. The ship was a justified military target. Also, they don’t send out warships “unarmed”

    15. Im pretty upset we attacked iran. That being said and despite what the administration is saying, this is war, not playground tag. If you get an opportunity to take out a main component of the enemies military, you do it… even if it isnt carrying munitions. Its still a vessel of war.

    16. Logical-Advertising2 on

So – one thing I am 100% on is that ship was not “unarmed”. They sail with SOLAS pyrotechnics, force protection small arms and the basic magazine stock. When a ship deploys it will be fully armed with Ops stock but they still always have their basics. Likey that ship didn’t have any rocket propelled munitions as per Indias supposed requested but the main cannon 100% had rounds available.
