Bugs are commonly attracted to ketones found in plastics, rubber, and other household items like soap, and detergents.

We get tons of lady bugs in my house, last week I started water color painting, and apparently they are attracted to some of the paints, they went and hung out on one of the paintings while it was drying

Those are not ladybugs/ladybird Beatles, they are imposters and will ruin your home.

    5. those aren’t ladybugs. ladybugs live outside, are harmless and good for the environment.

these on the picture look like Asian lady beetles. they invade homes, aggressive, can bite, and secrete yellow stuffs with bad odor. they’re harmful to pets.

    6. only thing I can figure is maybe they like the residual smell of the shaving cream or the plastic/rubber is infused with some kind of scent that they like

    7. What timeline are we in that they are called ladybirds now and not lady bugs?

Entomologist here. Just chiming in because these threads always get people claiming these are lady beetles, not ladybugs (or ladybirds in this case). All three are names used for a group of [insects called Coccinelids](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccinellidae). And no, despite what misleading Google searches might imply, one invasive species is not a lady beetle while all the rest are ladybugs.

People often talk about the invasive species Harmonia axyridis, or the multicolored Asian lady beetle (or ladybug). Us entomologists generally use the term lady beetle because this group of insects is not part of the bug family, but instead beetles. That means when we write about the invasive species that most people are searching for over other lady beetles, you’ll usually see the term for the first time if you were used to the term ladybug. Someone took a ran with that to someone mean there’s different species that are ladybugs and not lady beetle. More on that myth here if you want a bit of a rabbit hole: https://askentomologists.com/2018/03/12/ladybug-meme/

Oh I can actually explain why this happens!

Bugs crave knowledge and heard your razor was wise.
