Franz Ferdinand was not the ruler of Austria-Hungary and died nearly a month before the war started.

Archduke was assassinated by some guy, and wasnt the start of the war, but used as justification

    3. The fact that people will upvote this is quite sad

No knowledge of the July Crisis

No wonder they blame Austria or Serbia for starting the war…

The first ruler in history to die on the first day of war is probably some small time duke/lord. These guys usually fought on the same day (or within hours) the war was declared.

That’s not counting tribal conflicts/raids mind you.

His death was the reason the war even started and he didn’t even become ruler yet

Genuinely how does this have any upvotes like this is next level historical illiteracy

Yall are reading this wrong: they/them said the top part, the second part is just identifying Franz Ferdinand for you incase you forgot. Hope this helps

Franz Ferdinand was not the ruler of Austria-Hungary, and WWI had not started before his death. Also, this breaks the 20 year rule.

I mean when you surprise attack and one side doesn’t know the war has started that’s pretty easy.

The death of Julius Caesar sparked a Roman Civil War, and I doubt that was first either

    12. Franz Ferdinand was heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, not Emperor. Also Austria-Hungary officially declared war about a month after the assassination
