**Thrust vectoring** is technically the movement of the actual exhaust nozzles up and/or down. This however does allow the F-22 to perform such a high G turn like this. What this picture is really showcasing is the result of such a high G turn. When they perform high G maneuvers, it causes the air pressure on the upper side to drop. This makes the temperature fall quickly and water vapor in the air condenses into clouds. l

    2. Born to late to explore the world, to early to explore the stars but just in time to witness the F-22. What a magnificent beast, when I think of art, I think of engineering and machinery like this.

    3. If this is a photo I’d love to see the photographer credited. It does not look like a photo at all, and it matches some renders that went around Facebook last year.

Impressive pic. Unfortunately, I stopped enjoying military tech images some time ago. If only we were as creative at solving real problems as at engineering killing machines… (((

The fact that this jet is still 20 years old and there’s still nothing that comes close to the capabilities is fucking crazy

    6. The title is hurting my head. Turning the exhaust nozzles to direct the thrust in a way other than directly straight backwards is what thrust vectoring is. The plane being on a thrust vector is… idk what to make of that. If you mean this image is showing the thrust being vectored, that would be something to say, but the thrust nozzles in the image are pointing more or less straight, so it’s not really showcasing that either.

Capturing the vapor cloud after a high G thrust vectored maneuver is what I’d call this image.

It is fascinating to think that the limit right now on how aggressively a jet can move is the pilots body.

    8. Can’t wait to see what effect it will create when it gets taken down by friendly fire
