Sources & Methodology
Strike locations are only plotted where confirmed by 2+ major outlets. Iran strikes sourced from CBS News map (Mar 1), Al Jazeera mapping article (Feb 28), Israel-Alma daily report (Mar 1), and Wikipedia's sourced compilation. Iran retaliation locations from WaPo satellite/video verification (Mar 1), Wikipedia, NBC/AJ/Time live coverage.
Casualty snapshot:
Iran: 201 killed / 747 injured (Iranian Red Crescent, Feb 28 17:30 CET) — numbers are rising
Israel: ≥11 killed / ~500 wounded (JPost citing MDA + hospitals, Mar 1)
US military: 3 killed / 5 seriously wounded (CENTCOM confirmed, Mar 1)
UAE: 3 killed / 58 injured (UAE gov statement)
Minab school: 148 killed / 95 wounded (Iranian state media; NOT independently verified per WaPo/NYT, though footage was verified)
Key claims labeled as "claimed": IDF's 1,200 munitions + 40 commanders; Trump's 9 ships sunk (CENTCOM would not confirm); IRGC's 27 bases + 560 US troops (contradicts CENTCOM).
Hormuz: S&P Global/Platts confirmed tanker traffic halted Mar 1. IRGC broadcast "closed" warnings (UKMTO confirmed receiving). Iran FM says "no plan to close." Maersk/Hapag-Lloyd/CMA CGM/MSC all suspended transits. NOT a formal closure.
Tools: Python, Matplotlib, Cartopy on Google Colab.
⚠️ This is an active, rapidly evolving conflict. All numbers are preliminary snapshots. I'll update as confirmed figures change.

what stands out is the delta between “claimed” and actually verified. that gap is basically the info war in action, especially around casualties and Hormuz headlines
