NASA concept art – a theoretical mass transport system all the way up to geostationary orbit – this is an orbit that has the same rotation rate (period) as the Earth does spinning on it's axis PLUS it's inclined at zero degrees to the equator so that it appears stationary in the sky to an observer . Note that this period is a sidereal day (23h56m4s) and not our 'usual' 24 hr solar day .
