A particularly prized piece in the costume and traditional [dress](https://owl.museum-digital.de/object/56) collection of the Lippe State Museum is a courtly child’s dress from the Renaissance. It is in the style of Spanish fashion and was worn by Countess Katharina zur Lippe, who died on May 19, 1600, at the age of six. Also found in her grave were a bonnet, fragments of a chemise (both now lost), shoes, stockings, and a necklace with a pendant. The dress was discovered in the crypt of the Augustinian Canons in Blomberg.
The dress is made of warp velvet/cotton and is decorated with gold and silver lace along the front button placket and on the bodice. This lace also adorns the hem at the front and back. The shoulders feature the typical shoulder rolls characteristic of Renaissance fashion. The dress is only partially preserved; missing sections have been repaired with a light brown fabric.

Beautiful and sad.

Even with the light brown patches, its an absolutely beautiful dress.

Wow what a beautiful piece. I like how it looks with the plain repair fabric, too.

IDK if this was “discoivered” or just looted from her body.

As someone who teaches 7 year
olds, it’s so hard to imagine little children running around in clothing like this. How did they play? Of course, it’s gorgeous and very sad.
