It gained infamy for heinous atrocities including mass rapes, village burnings alive, and the Wola massacre during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, where over 40,000 civilians were slaughtered—shocking even hardened SS peers. I mean, first of all, the Nazis are human scum.
However, they really were not “capitalists” or “socialists.”
They were racists and the closest thing they had to coherent economic policy was *feudalism.* They certainly didn’t give power to the worker, they gave entire industries to favored cronies and let them extract personal wealth from them. However, when the regime came knocking you better be willing to go into debt or poverty if that is what was asked of you.
So if you were “given” a ball bearings factory in 1937, and it made you crazy wealthy, they didn’t care, but when its 1944 and they want you to give the Reich ball bearings at a 90% loss you better be willing to do so.
You can pretty much work through every Nazi policy and see that it isn’t coherent in terms of how we view left/right policy. It is just Authoritarianism, racism, and cronyism all the way down. It was also fundamentalist in that it demanded that everyone pretend reality conformed to belief instead of conforming beliefs to reality.
Now, this is not to let conservatives off the hook. The Nazis started on the right, partnered with traditional conservative parties, and the society they promised was based on a sort of fake conservative pastorialislm that never existed just like how Maga wants to return to a version of the 1950s that only existed on TV.
However, trying to proclaim the Nazis as exemplars of capitalism or that “ThEiR NAME InClUDES Socalislm argl bargl!” Fails to capture the underlying fact that racism drove everything.
