Fire investigators never found the true source of the outbreak, but they have a hunch about it..

    2. Didnt Ubisoft give away copies of the game Assassins creed Unity and donate to help rebuild it? Or am i misremembering this.

    3. The world was suffering from Covid, and the Catholic church makes this a priority. This is why I’m not religious.

    4. It’s gorgeous, but I wonder how many houses could’ve been built for the poor with the donations instead of

As a species we need to move past religion and if a church gets burned down build apartment complex to replace it. /s

    6. People are hating on Christians for the money needed to rebuild this, but the cathedral is a major tourist attraction and national symbol, probably the main one after the Eiffel Tower. It’d be like not rebuilding the Temple of Heaven in China if it burnt down. No one would be like “I can’t believe those Taoists are using our taxpayer money for their dumb religion”.

    7. I was quite disappointed that they changed their mind on making it a new design and just recreated the old spire.

When the spire was first destroyed in 1792, they went with a new design.

But now, after the second spire burned down, they just recreated it to match the second design.

    8. They very rarely let anyone marry in the Notre Dame Cathedral nowadays. They will sometimes make an exception and the first one allowed post reconstruction was the wedding on one of the carpenters who helped rebuild the structures roof. [Here is a link to a video that shows parts of the wedding.](https://youtu.be/FH7DRpf27HY?si=HBhARwhmVUwOPqH_)

    9. There must have been some immense pride and care in the work. You don’t get to do that just anytime. Might be a case study by the insurance companies too, on what it takes to make this right.

    10. In before Reddit just starts bashing how “wasteful” it is/was to rebuild and complains endlessly about religion.

Only thing missing is the weathering and patina buildup of the centuries. now it is beautiful and clean but lacks the aging of time.

But the conspiracy theorists say we’ve lost all the skills to make these things!! Did the aliens come back and help us?

In all seriousness – time money and effort well done to them

Incredible work from the many artists and artisans who pulled together on the restoration.

    15. The most disgusting part of this story is how quickly wealthy people pledged millions for this restoration when the emergency of homeless people and famine doesnt get the same response. It seems a building has more value than human lives and suffering.

    16. Imagine how much good church organisations could do in the world if they spent all this wealth on actually helping people…

So a song about the suffering of women, playing on a video about a church infamous for suppressing women…

      Got it.

    18. Man, its been 5 years since the fire. Somehow is simultaneously feels like that happened last week and a lifetime ago.

    19. I like how they rebuild/restore it with old school carpenters and one french carpenter of those got the permission by the archbishop to marry in Notre Dame, first time since 30 years.

    20. Is it true that Ubisoft was the only one with the blueprints to make it because of Assassins Creed Unity? Or is that just a load of bs?

    21. I was there last April. The interior was complete but they were still working on the exterior. You couldn’t even tell there was a fire at one point. They did a great job.

The crazy thing I found about all of this is that they used the data that Ubisoft collected for Assassin’s Creed to rebuild it

    23. All that money for an old building when thousand of people live in the street, including hundred of children. “Thanks god” And yes, i’m a baguette.

    24. Huh, I didn’t know the fire happened back in the 1970s! (According to the color grading of this video).

    25. I was surprised at how sad I felt when I turned on the TV and saw a live video of it burning, it was fully engulfed, and I thought, one of the most famous and beautiful buildings in the world was being destroyed.

Why did we ever abandon this style whatsoever?

The beauty of this kind of architecture is timeless.
