    2. What’re you doing sneaking into the house at 2am, son, *I’m Kasey Kasem*.

Dad, I was out with Stella and the car broke down, *I’m Jaycee Kasem*.

    3. it was syndicated to like, 300 medium/large market stations across the country.

      It’s like remembering “breathing.”

    4. Listened to the OG back in the 70’s Sunday mornings in the background of our chores and Sunday routines. Loved the trivia stuff more than who was #1

    5. I have six vinyl records for one of the weeks from the Fall of 1972.

It has the whole show, minus the adverts.

    6. I remember listening to this, Art Laboe’s “Memories of El Monte”, Wolfman Jack, and the Dr. Demento show.

    7. “Sending out this request and dedication” to some random person just in case they happen to be listening to this very long radio program in its entirety.

I love the Negative Land song where they used outtakes of Casey Casen introducing U2 to the top 40 and cussing up a storm.

    9. Does anyone remember when SNL did a commercial for Casey Kasem Singing the Beatles? It was hilarious.

    10. When I listen to these reruns, I can never find a song I recognize. It sounds all fictional from a parallel universe

    11. Yes, but being born in 1985, I am more familiar with Casey’s Top 40 rather than American Top 40. The station that I listened to him went to an alternative rock format a few months before he went back to AT40, and although I’m fairly certain AT40 continued to air on another radio station locally (I was 13 years old so it wasn’t like I was chasing it down, plus that kind of information wasn’t always easy to find in early stage internet), I never discovered it again locally until Ryan Seacrest took over.

    12. I remember having to wake up early to fold newspapers, load them up into my bag so I could hoof it around the neighborhood on a Sunday morning delivering papers. I would have my Walkman on, listening to the radio and it was always Kasey Kasem’s top 40 count down that was on. (around 1989/90 I think?)

Almost everything I just said is outdated/dead. lol

      Fuck I’m old.

    13. “I gotta come out of a god damn uptempo record to talk about someone’s dog dying. It’s ponderous, fucking ponderous!”

I remember listening in the late 80’s. Then i remember listening to Rick Dee’s top 40.

    15. No. But reading your post instantly conjures up the Red House Painters song. “Have you forgotten”.

    16. I remember not understanding (then learning) how “countdowns” work.

I was kinda devastated when (I think it was a Michael Jackson song had a long run at #1 and watching the Solid Gold countdown on Saturday feeling relieved it was still the number 1 song.

Then near devastation when I listened to Kasey on Sunday only to hear it had dropped to #2.

I also remember being bitter towards David Bowie for replacing it in the #1 slot… (that feeling somehow lasted for years.)

So yeah, I definitely remember listening.

    17. Step-dad was stationed in (W) Germany through most of the 80s, used to listen to the top 40 countdown on AFN while doing my homework. Also brining back memories of Paul Harvey’s the Rest of Story and the Chicken-man.
