    1. If it’s 100 years old it’s a few years before a certain political faction co-opted that symbol.

    2. Some time traveler etching sports scores from the future. Forgot his pen on the way back.

We’ll never know who it is now, but they’re mad rich

    3. Holy fuck I’m getting old. For whatever reason when I read 108 years old, I still assumed you meant something from the late 1800’s. I was surprised to learn they had gas tanks in 1887.

    4. I’ve seen tanks like this before. Was told that if you come across one with a 2×2 grid square it was a swastika that was filled in for obvious reasons.

We have an in service CO2 fire extinguisher at work with its first test date from 1985. And I thought that was old….

    6. For everyone commenting otherwise, it has nothing to do with Nazis or even Germany. Linde Air Products (an American company) used that symbol well before the Nazi party was even formed.

Pretty interesting how symbols can be completely co-opted. I’ve actually seen some old tanks where the symbol has been boxed in and changed to like a “window” looking pattern to avoid the newer connotation.

    7. Considering the earliest stamp is from 1918 and every stamp is 5 years after the fact, that tells me 1918 was the first year for recertification since recertification happens every 5 years. From an original date, a tank is good for 12 years prior to the first recertification. So that tank is from 1906.

Crazy to think that everybody who was involved in the manufacture of this cylinder is now dead. This cylinder saw the rise and fall of the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, the Moon Landing, the birth of the internet, the first smart phones..

This tank was tested for 108 years to see if it could hold gas, but the gas doesn’t just stay in there it gets used and then refilled. That means this tank has also been successfully PASSING GAS for 108 years. What a time to be alive!

    10. I’ve seen cylinders with swastikas stamped in before. Obviously not quite as old as this one you came across but pretty neat nonetheless.
