You’re telling me if your country gets a charismatic war hero as a president, who immediately starts fighting against elites and old laws you hate, you won’t support him?

The republic died with the Gracchi brothers. Everything after that was a dispute between scavengers.
The soldiers sided with Caesar because, unlike the Senate, he actually seemed to give a damn about them. He offered them more than homelessness and poverty upon their retirement.

To be fair, those soldiers were often denied their due because of the same corruption.
By the time of Sulla the system was already falling apart, rampant corruption, blood ik the streets, and he was the generation before Caesar.
I’d say generally Caesar was the lesser evil.

Totally, but when given a choice between old, corrupt farts who will deny you all your veterans benefits and a middle-aged, corrupt aurafarmer who provides you with all kinds of land, bonuses and opportunities after your service I know who I’m picking.

Wild how the Senate called Caesar a tyrant but they were perfectly fine ignoring starving veterans for years. Who woulda guess that actions have consequences.

Modern hear republic and think it’s a by the people for the people kind of stuff. But nah, republic, empire, it was all rich fucker. Except the emperor did at least give bread to the poor and gold to the soldiers. Of course they gonna support him and not the old asses of the senate

I need to go back to bed.
