Except the arquebus (the real one) was probably less accurate than a musket. Bad ass if you are shooting into a crowd that’s already pretty close in but only for the one poor guy on the receiving end. The rest keep charging you with their swords or pikes or clubs or whatever.

Have you seen the Last samurái movie? Sadly IS not historically accurate (rebels had firearms and cannons too) but the one with a machine gun destroying the incoming charge… Wow.

People are severly overestimating the effectiveness of early guns… there’s a non zero chance it wouldn’t even penetrate said armor if it was good enough, and the chances of hitting anyone are very low.
