This image shows Adolf Hitler speaking to the Reichstag on 11 December 1941, when he formally declared war on the United States.
The speech came four days after Pearl Harbor. Hitler claimed the U.S. was already fighting Germany through naval escorts, convoy protection, and Lend Lease support for Britain. He framed the declaration as defensive and as backing Japan.
This was a political choice, not a requirement. Germany was not obliged to declare war. The decision unified U.S. public opinion and allowed Roosevelt to focus fully on defeating Germany first. It is now seen as a major strategic mistake.

Do you think they thought they had a chance fighting the Allies including the US? Or did they know this was going to be their high water mark?

One of Hitler worst decisions. However, I listened to a lot of the speech and am I wrong in saying he didn’t come out and say it?? However he did spend a lot of time talking smack on Roosevelt. I know it was pretty much expected as part of the tripartite pact
*EDIT: never mind I just read the whole speech and he totally said he is joining Japan with Italy to fight off America and Britain. I was surprised how much shit talk he speak on Roosevelt 😂 also he makes a lot of claims that Germany had already been attacked many times with several ships since the war had started, can anyone confirm this?

In front of Hitler there are not 3 – but actually 4 people sitting and one of them is a grey ghost…

All he had to do was not attack his neighbors and he would’ve gotten away with a whoooole lot, what an idiot

I’m sure it seemed like a good idea at the time

How’d that go for him ?

After the war, a lot of German generals came forward to bravely explain they knew fighting a three front war was a terrible idea.
Apparently, they were all oddly silent when the actual decision-making was being done

Say what you will but they really knew how to project their evil fascism power through decor and lighting.
