    1. An image representing the strange and unique period of co-existence between the government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and France. On Oct 20, 1946. Ho Chi Minh returned from his negotiations in France that culminated in the so-called ‘modus vivandi’ that continued to elaborate on the mechanism of the prelimary agreement on the intergration of the DRV as a ‘free state’ within the French Union. In any case, this was meaningless as the principal debates of the unity of Vietnam and its indepedenence already ran into two irreconcilable positions.

However, you can see into a strange period where the National Army of Vietnam (renamed PAVN in 1950) were modelled after the French and were supposed to be trained and supplied by the French Army if the agreements go through. A year later, these people would be fighting eachother in another cold war struggle.
